Mount Pleasant’s tree lighting set-up

Dec 19 2017, 2:45 pm

Wednesday morning was sunny and deceptively crisp. John Musil, operations manager at FestiLight Décor Solutions Ltd., prepared for the set-up of Mount Pleasant’s O Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Lynn Warwick, Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area’s (BIA) executive director, was slightly frenzied. That old, shameless Murphy had struck – the Christmas lights were missing. Several phone calls provided no clues to their whereabouts. Luckily, Musil kept a steady supply in his van. Crisis averted.

Mount Pleasant’s BIA has been hosting the O Christmas tree lighting ceremony on the once fire ravaged corner of Kingsway and Broadway for the past couple years. The tree was planted specifically for the community event.

The community pulls together to make this event. Decorations for the 25-foot tree were made by 570 students from the Mount Pleasant Elementary School, Florence Nightingale Elementary, and Simon Fraser Elementary. Ornament design and supplies were provided by Urban Source Alternative Art Materials.

The set-up takes a maximum of three hours. See the finished product on Friday, December 7th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.
