For the second year, Vancouver City laneways are being re-imagined, and public events are taking place in the bustling lane at Broadway and Main bringing musicians, local business operators, artists, urban farmers and producers, residents, and visitors to the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.
Livable Laneways Night Markets is a VIVA Vancouver initiative supported by the City of Vancouver. Coordinated by Livable Laneways, a non-profit organization, Paths to Plazas is an example of how they are dedicated to transforming the overlooked laneways and alleys of Vancouver into pedestrianfriendly zones. It is a collaboration that includes Blim, The Beaumont Studios the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area, as well as special guests, Mount Pleasant Victory Market, StudioCAMP and Vancouver Public SpaceNetwork (VPSN). The events take place on July 21st, 28th and August 4th from 5– 10pm.

July 21st Blim Market 5:00 – 10:00 pm
Where: The alley running parallel to Main Street between Broadway and 8th
50 local artists, artisans and designers will be out to celebrate the return of the popular Blim Market. Blim is partnering with Studio Keiko to present a fashion show (entry by donation) with designs by Rukus New Edge and Blim. This night will include musical guests, Myths and Ultimate Lover and dance performance from House of La Douche. Returning local businesses include Chutney Villa and Renoʼs Restaurant both serving great food lane side. We also welcome for the first time FasinFrank who will showcase a selection of clothing and other goods.
The Mount Pleasant Victory Market will operate as a pocket market over all three nights and offer a selection of urban based vendors to serve your market needs, including SOLEfood, Yummy Yards, Skipper Ottoʼs Community Supported Fishery, Sugo Sauce, Victory Gardens, Backyard Buzz, Olla Flowers and much more.
StudioCAMP will be providing a seating structure with hinging segments that allow for multiple configurations called The Bendch (Bending Bench). This unique structure will be set up for all three Saturdays. Vancouver Public Space Network (VPSN) will be creating laser graffiti projections and participating all 3 nights and will serve as the live installation component for the events.
July 28th – The Beaumont Studios and MP Community Celebration 5:00 – 10:00 pm
Where: Alley running parallel to main street between Broadway and 8th
This night will be a community celebration with music and events and arts and crafts vendors. A highlight of the evening will be a short documentary premier screening at 9:30 pm by filmmaker Ana Mateescu, based on why Mt Pleasant is unique and special. In conjunction, photographer and art storeowner Stan Rath, will present a photo exhibit of his local streetscapes and Sam Cameron and
Mustafa Falaki will prepare illustration boards to demonstrate, through case study examples of Melbourne and Seattle, different ways to activate laneways. The Beaumont is partnering with Livable Laneways to bring local art and music to the streets of Vancouver. The night will include an eclectic selection of music featuring some of Vancouver’s outstanding DJs, dancers and performers. In addition, the night will include a market representing artists, artisans and designers from our community who will be showcasing their work as well as giving demonstrations.
The night will also feature returning participants, Mount Pleasant Victory Market StudioCAMP and VPSN.
August 4th – Mt Pleasant BIA BBQ Cook Off 5:00 – 10:00 pm
Where: Alley running parallel to Main Street between Broadway and 8th
“You Be the Judge! At the MPBIAʼs 2nd Annual Smoking Sausage BBQ Cookoff. Sample and vote on specially crafted sausages designed by local Mount Pleasant restaurants, with help from our local sausage master, Drews Driesssen of D-Original Sausage Company. For a $3 entry fee foodies can select the winner from the BBQ creations crafted by: Hyde Restaurant, eight 1/2 restaurant Lounge, The Cascade Room, The Rumpus Room and Rhizome Café and have a chance to win a $25.00 restaurant gift certificate. All money raised will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. All buns generously donated by COBS Bread.
A Family friendly evening: The MPBIAʼs Smoking Sausage BBQ Competition Cook-Off is definitely an outdoor event to look forward to this summer.” The night will also feature an assortment of arts, craft and designer as well as music and returning participants, Renoʼs, Chutney Villa, Mount Pleasant Victory Market, StudioCAMP and VPSN.
