UPDATED: Motorcycle collides into Vancouver Police officer on Knight Street Bridge

A Vancouver Police officer checking speeds at the north end of the Knight Street Bridge has been hit by a motorcyclist.

According to police, the incident occurred just after 11:30 a.m. this morning when the officer was attempting to flag the motorcyclist for excessive speed. However, the motorcyclist allegedly collided into the officer during an attempt to avoid police.

Both the officer and motorcyclist are in hospital being treated for their serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Southbound lanes on the Knight Street Bridge have been shut down until further notice while the VPD’s traffic section investigates the collision.

  • UPDATED at 4:51 p.m. – The Knight Street Bridge has fully reopened to traffic. Police now say the officer only received minor injuries and has been released from hospital. A 28-year-old man, the operator of the motorcycle, has also been released pending further investigation.
