8 most outrageous drinks at Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival 2019

Vancouver’s 2019 Hot Chocolate Festival is back for its ninth run, so get your sweet tooth ready.

The annual celebration of all things hot chocolate is kicking off on January 19 and runs until February 14, 2019, – which means you have 27 days to try all 30 of the participating ‘chocstars’ at this year’s fest, all of which are local purveyors.

While there are a staggering number of beverages to choose from – we’re talking 74 – some varieties have piqued our interest just a tad more than others.

Here are the eight most outrageous drinks at Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival 2019.

‘Young, Dumb and Full of Kumquat’ from Perverted Ice Cream

This Kumquat and Yuzu white hot chocolate features Callebaut Blanc Satin and will be served with a passionfruit citrus meringue kiss.

Available: January 19 to February 14

‘Great Balls of Fire’ from Glenburn Soda

This boozy creation is a combo of spicy cinnamon Callebaut milk chocolate infused with Fireball liqueur and served with “fried” ice cream.

Available: February 2 to 8

‘Chocolate Power Plant’ from 49th Parallel Coffee and Lucky’s Doughnuts

This hot chocolate is vegan and the tasty treat that comes with it is too, not to mention gluten-free. The beverage is made with vegan almond or vegan hazelnut milk, paired with Lucky’s first-ever vegan doughnuts.

Available: January 19 to February 14 (only served after 9 am at all locations.)

‘The Bees Knees Squeeze’ from Chez Christophe

This white hot chocolate is flavoured with lemon and honey and served with a cream cheese treat.

Available: January 19 to Feb 13 (no Festival participation on February 14)

‘The Dazzling Mermaid’ from Soirette

A wild blueberry cheesecake and butterfly pea white hot chocolate served with a seashell macaron.

Available: January 19 to February 14

‘Tiramisu 2 U’ from Baggio Gelateria & Pizzeria

This creation is one of three from Baggio, made with dark chocolate and vanilla-infused cream with a scoop of mascarpone gelato hidden inside.

‘Sweet & Salty’ from Earnest Ice Cream

This drink tastes like salty pretzels and sweet caramel and it topped with whipped cream and pretzels paired with a house-made blondie bar.

‘Lick my Banana Split’ from Temper Chocolate and Pastry

This hot chocolate is made with Valrhona 70% dark chocolate infused with banana, garnished with whipped cream and a cherry on top served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a chocolate shell.
