MLS announces 2013 Best XI, ignores Whitecaps' Camilo

Dec 19 2017, 5:00 pm

MLS announced their Best XI squad today, and missing from the list was Whitecaps FC’s Camilo Sanvezzo, MLS Golden Boot award winner for leading scorer.

Camilo led the league with 22 goals this season but was, somehow, left off the squad. This is the second time in MLS history that the Golden Boot winner hasn’t been named to the Best XI squad, the first time was in 2003.

The 25-year-old native of Presidente Prudente, Brazil was also left off the list for MLS Most Valuable Player.

In the last Whitecaps FC match this season, Camilo scored a hat trick to secure the scoring title.

Camilo’s 2013 season by the numbers:

  • Started 27 games
  • 123 shots, 55 shots on goal
  • 22 goals
  • 4 MLS Player of the Week wins
  • 2 MLS Player of the Month wins

Camilo will be back for the 2014 Whitecaps FC season.
