MLB insider gives concerning injury update on Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bichette

Despite not having Bo Bichette in the lineup, the Toronto Blue Jays hold a 2-0 lead over the New York Yankees in the ALDS.

Bichette, who suffered a knee injury late in the season, was tied for second amongst all MLB players with 181 hits despite playing in just 139 games.

Though Bichette’s injury kept him off the Blue Jays’ ALDS roster, there was hope amongst the fanbase that he might be able to return soon after if they were to advance. The Jays themselves, however, didn’t provide much clarity regarding a timeline, and we may now know why.

According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Blue Jays shortstop isn’t moving around like a player who is nearing a return to game action.

“In my opinion, [the Blue Jays] have to be concerned,” Rosenthal said on Foul Territory. “It’s not so much what I’m hearing, but what I’m seeing being by their dugout. He is not walking like a guy who is fully healthy. He’s got a bit of a limp.

“To my knowledge, he has not begun running yet. It doesn’t seem to me that he’s all that close.”

The positive here for the Blue Jays is that, despite not having Bichette’s bat in the lineup, they’ve racked up 23 runs in two games versus the Yankees. Several others have stepped up, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Daulton Varsho, and Alejandro Kirk have all hit two home runs so far in this series.

The other piece of good news for the Blue Jays is that the ALCS is set to begin on Sunday, meaning Bichette still has several days to try and get better for a return, whether it be for Game 1 or perhaps later in the series. That said, there seems to be a legitimate chance that he may not return even if the Jays can advance.

The Blue Jays will be looking to close out the ALDS on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. Shane Bieber will be on the mound for the Jays, while Carlos Rodon will get the start for the Yankees.
