A 53-year-old woman has died from her injuries after being assaulted at a public park located in a Mission residential neighbourhood more than two weeks ago.

According to Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), on March 11 the woman reported she had been assaulted by a Caucasian male several days earlier while walking through Fenn Park, near 3rd Avenue and Ryan Street.

Mission RCMP launched an investigation into the assault and ordered a composite sketch be drafted based on the description the victim had provided.

On the evening of March 23, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the woman was found deceased in her home in the 33000 block of 3rd Avenue. The circumstances of her death was deemed suspicious and prompted an autopsy, which found that the cause of her death was consistent with the injuries she sustained during the assault at the park.

IHIT is working with Mission RCMP to investigate the incident and canvass the area. Police have described the suspect as a Caucasian male with brown hair, 25 to 30 years old, about 5’9″ tall with piercing blue eyes. At the time of the incident, he wore a black hoodie and white running shoes.

Anyone who may have information that could assist investigators is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4488 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
