As we enter the last few weeks of holiday shopping, many of us still have gifts to check off our lists.

If you missed out on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, don’t panic. There’s a more sustainable way to get your hands on coveted designer labels here in Vancouver.

Howe Street consignment store Mine and Yours reported a 74% increase in December sales from 2018 to 2019, indicating the demand for secondhand shopping during the holiday season.

In response to the aforementioned increase, and as part of its mission to make secondhand gifting the way of the future, the store has launched a Secondhand Holiday Gift Guide Series, running through December 25 with new gift guides released weekly.

Mine and Yours is promoting a 12 Days of Holidays campaign until December 12, including everything from one-day sales to new collections and styling tips. Courtney Watkins, the owner of Mine and Yours, is also set to host Instagram Live shopping parties this month.

“Nobody is ashamed to purchase second-hand gifts anymore, especially when they’re in fantastic condition and affordable designer pieces,” says Watkins. “The one-of-a-kind designer pieces we carry have the wow factor that everyone wants to give this time of year.”

At Mine and Yours, shoppers can find labels like Fendi, Chanel, Dior, Prada, Valentino, Celine, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton, among many others.

In 2019, the resale sector grew 25 times faster than the broader retail sector, according to Thred Up. And in the next five years, the secondhand market is expected to hit $64 billion, overtaking the traditional thrift and donation segment.

Since Watkins launched Mine and Yours seven years ago, she has led the startup to become one of Canada’s fastest-growing luxury resale and consignment boutiques.

The store recently introduced PayBright, allowing people to shop their favourite pieces and pay for them in separate, interest-free installments.

“Mine and Yours is making huge strides in trying to slow down fast fashion, during this time of year where shopping is at the forefront of everyone’s minds, we want to be there to offer a more sustainable option,” says Watkins.
