Michael Bublé isn’t the only celebrity who is a fan of the Vancouver Canucks, but he’s certainly the most outspoken.
He’s also around the team more than most, and has struck up friendships with several of the players, notably Brock Boeser.
After the Canucks’ loss to the Detroit Red Wings last week, Boeser was clearly upset and vented his frustrations after the game.
“It’s the same stuff game after game,” said Boeser. “I don’t know where the disconnect is, if guys in here aren’t listening to what the coaches are preaching on our style of play, or if some of our structure is not working, or what it is. It’s embarrassing.”
Bublé felt the need to reach out.
“When Brock did the press conference the game before, I didn’t call him, I just wrote him,” said Bublé on CHEK TV’s Donnie & Dhali – The Team.

“I just said, ‘Hey, I get it. You’re frustrated and you’re disappointed and you want more. But we’re not disappointed in you. We’re not disappointed as a fanbase. We understand — we’re smart enough to know what a rebuild is. Yeah, we’d love to win more games, that would be great. But we also know that you do work your ass off. We know this is part of the process. Just keep your head up: don’t be so hard on yourself, man.'”
Bublé said that Boeser responded with a “really nice message.”
“I think it meant something on a human level that his buddy says that,” said Bublé. “But they do take it personally, and I feel for them.”
It’s always good to get that reminder that professional athletes, as much as they get put on a pedestal, are human beings. The organization as a whole is aiming for a top pick in the 2027 draft, but the players still want to win games. That’s what they’ve focused on for their entire lives.
“I said to Brock, ‘Hey dude, you’re going to string some together. You’re going to win some surprising games that people don’t expect you to,'” added Bublé.
Sure enough, after dropping a tough game against Quinn Hughes and the Minnesota Wild, the Canucks won a very surprising game in Anaheim, coming back from a three-goal deficit in the third period.
The reaction on the bench and in the room after the game said it all: that win meant a lot to the team.
“Here’s what I know, as tough as it is, and it’s not a fun thing to lose, they’re a good group of guys,” said Bublé. “I think they really like each other, I think they believe in each other, I think they believe in the process and what’s happening go forward.”
That process, of course, is a rebuild. Above all, Bublé believes that the Canucks and their fans need to have patience with that process.
“My prayer is that no matter what this looks like or how tough it gets, we don’t lose focus on rebuilding the right way,” said Bublé, “that there isn’t a loss of patience or a panic button […] Stay the course.”
