Batten down the hatches, because another wind storm will soon take aim at Metro Vancouver.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather statement for “strong southwesterly winds” expected to impact the region starting on Thursday, Dec. 18.
According to the ECCC, tree damage and utility outages are possible throughout parts of Metro Vancouver due to continued rainfall and soil already saturated by the storms that hit earlier this week.

“An approaching low-pressure centre will track across the south coast this afternoon,” said ECCC in a statement. “Strong southeasterly winds with gusts near 80 km/h expected ahead of the system during the day for places near the Strait of Georgia.”
Strong winds are expected to start this afternoon and last into the evening.
ECCC also warned residents that there may be an injury risk from flying or falling debris during the weather event.
The latest Metro Vancouver wind storm comes just days after more than 100,000 people were without power in B.C.
And keep your raincoats nearby, because the Metro Vancouver forecast is calling for plenty more rain heading into Christmas week.

Several areas in the region have been hit hard by the current rainfall, including Coquitlam, which has received 70.4 mm of rain; Port Moody, which received 63.8 mm; and Pitt Meadows, which received 58.8 mm of rain so far.
