If you’re looking for a gig with above-average pay, you should peek at the jobs pages at any Metro Vancouver college or university.

Most institutions have quite a few jobs up for grabs, and many of the roles offered don’t require you to have earned a degree at any of these universities or colleges.

These job listings are just a tiny sampling of what’s out there. These listings only cover staff postings, but many of these Metro Vancouver institutions also have faculty and student positions available.

SFU has over 30 staff positions available. Some of the jobs being offered are also union gigs.

One temporary full-time job posting for SFU’s Burnaby location is for a campaign assistant. Applicants need “good knowledge” of call centre operations and record management systems. The gig pays $30.67 hourly plus 14 per cent in lieu of benefits. Applicants also need several years of experience.

SFU is also hiring an ambassador team member. Applicants for this job will serve as the first point of contact for SFU’s Big Data Hub. The role pays $27.08 an hour plus 14 per cent in lieu of benefits.

Another Metro Vancouver university that has lots of jobs available is UBC.

UBC has one role with over 30 vacancies for hotel auxiliary service workers. The role pays up to $30.84 an hour. Applicants only need a high school diploma and one year of related experience.

Langara College has many positions open at its main campus in Vancouver.

If you’re well-versed and certified in American Sign Language, the college is hiring a casual interpreter, and it pays $49.22 an hour plus an additional  20.8 per cent in lieu of benefits based on hours worked.

“This position receives a hard-to-recruit stipend of $4.12/hour. This stipend shall remain in effect until a new Collective Agreement is in place,” Langara says.VCC is also looking for interpreters.

Another role VCC is looking to fill is for on-call clerical support. The position pays up to $32.34 an hour and requires a high school diploma, including standard commercial and keyboarding courses. Working in an office environment and having some booking experience are considered assets.

If you’re looking for something on the side, Capilano University is looking for a weekend employee. The role pays up to $26.50 an hour and requires the applicant to be responsible for the day-to-day operations at the sports complex. However, Cap U says, “There are no guaranteed hours as it is dependent on rentals of the CSW Gym facilities.”
