Let it snow? Parts of the Metro Vancouver region received a dusting of snow earlier today.

Light snow was reported at higher elevations and areas away from the influence of the water, including Simon Fraser University at Burnaby Mountain, Surrey, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and the upper elevations of the North Shore municipalities. The snow accumulated in some of these areas, but it did not last long as it quickly changed to rain.

There was a very light dusting of snow in some areas of East Vancouver. The last time Vancouver city proper experienced snow was more than a year ago on November 29, 2014.

Over at Cypress, Grouse and Seymour mountains, snow has been coming down heavy for much of the day, creating a new layer of powder just in time for the Christmas holiday season. More snow also fell at Whistler Blackcomb.

As temperatures dip overnight in Metro Vancouver, rain will become mixed with wet snow and up to four centimetres of accumulated snow can be expected for upper elevations.

Warmer temperatures and more rainfall are in the forecast for the coming week.
