Metro Vancouver was treated to some beautiful weather during the Remembrance Day statutory holiday, but the forecast is about to get a whole lot wetter very soon.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning for a frontal system, expected to impact B.C.’s South Coast starting on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
According to the ECCC, between 40 and 60 mm of rain is expected for the region, which could cause some damage.

“A slow-moving Pacific frontal system will move across the B.C. South Coast,” said ECCC in a release.
“The rain will begin near midday and gradually intensify through the day. The heavy rain will continue tonight and Thursday, then ease Thursday night.”

Significant rainfall is expected in several parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore (West Vancouver and North Vancouver), as well as in the northeast part of the region (including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge).
“Vancouver will still get some rain, but it will be heavier closer to the mountains,” explained Derek Lee, Meteorologist with ECCC. “Everywhere else will still see between 20 to 40 mm.
“I see it on the radar, so the heaviest period will begin shortly. It will pick up through the afternoon and evening and continue into tomorrow.”
ECCC also warned that water is likely to pool on roads and in low-lying areas, and that landslides may occur in vulnerable areas such as steep slopes, deforested areas or recent burn scars.

Rain is sticking around throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend, with the only possible clearing in sight on Monday, Nov. 17.
Temperatures will reach as high as 11˚C in the next seven days. However, you’ll want to bundle up in the evening as overnight lows will dip to 3˚C on Sunday evening and then just 2˚C on Monday night.
“There’s a series of storms coming in from the Pacific,” added Lee. “It’s a rather wet pattern, so I wouldn’t expect too much of a break of sunshine on Monday with another system coming.”
