'No small task': Metro Vancouver news publication launches print edition

Dec 18 2025, 5:58 pm

A Metro Vancouver news publication that launched earlier this year is launching a print edition.

Freshet News, which we wrote about earlier this year, launched its print edition today. The digital version was launched this fall.

Freshet serves as a spiritual successor or evolution of some Metro Vancouver news publications that were shut down in February this year. The three publications that closed were Burnaby Now, New Westminster Record and Tri-City News.

“You may have noticed the Freshet News website has been a little light on content this week,” a post on the Freshet site said, adding that the reason for being light on content was the work the team was doing to launch the print edition.

“Launching a new newspaper is no small task. Especially in an environment where papers are closing or retreating to digital-only publication almost every day,” the website said.

If you’re interested in getting your hands on some local news, there are several locations to get the print edition from in Metro Vancouver.

In Coquitlam, Save-On Foods, Coquitlam City Hall and the Coquitlam Public Library will carry them along with Waves coffee houses. You’ll be able to find them in the same locations in Burnaby and New West.

Freshet has a full list of locations to find the print paper on its website.

The folks behind Freshet claim that they’ve heard from the community that there is demand for a print paper for various reasons, including some not wanting to be online as much.

“Many told us they’re tired of being online all the time; they miss the simple pleasure of flipping through the local paper at the breakfast table.”

Freshet adds that a fleet of volunteers has helped to ensure that copies should be in place by mid-afternoon on Dec. 18.

“We’re also going to be at several SkyTrain stations later in the afternoon, handing out papers to commuters heading home, and West Coast Express stations the next morning.”

The next print will be in January 2026.
