Four Vancouver men are nominated in this year’s Academy Awards for their work on The Revenant.

Chris Duesterdiek, nominated for sound mixing; Cameron Waldbauer, nominated for visual effects; Hamish Purdy, nominated for production design; and Robert Pandini, nominated for makeup and hairstyling, are all up for Oscars this year, making up three of The Revenant’s 12 nominations.

Vancouver-based Duestererdiek is among a team of four sound mixers nominated for their work on The Revenant, and this marks his first Oscar nomination.

Waldbauer, from Pitt Meadows, is also on a team of four visual effects artists on the bill for The Revenant, marking his second nomination. He was previously nominated for work on X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014.

Purdy, a North Vancouver set director, has also received his first Academy Award nomination for the film.

Port Coquitlam’s Pandini, is also up for his first award for hair and makeup. He was quoted on Facebook earlier this week saying “Now I know what it means to be living the dream!”

The Revenant is nominated for more awards than any other film this year, and has significant ties to B.C. and Alberta where much of the film was shot. The film swept up multiple awards at last weekend’s Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.
