Is this Alberta? Metro Vancouver gas prices have dropped ahead of another snowstorm

Metro Vancouver drivers might be confused about where they are today as the price at the pump is giving Alberta vibes.

Gas prices have plummeted to levels this region hasn’t seen in a long time, with some spotting gas stations selling for as low as $1.40 per litre of regular on Tuesday morning.

According to Gasbuddy.com, a website where drivers can report the prices they see around North America, the prices aren’t getting much higher than $1.65, even in notoriously pricey cities like Vancouver and Burnaby. That’s a price we haven’t really seen in years in the region but is still well above the Canadian average.

So if you want to fill up for the cheapest price, you will still have to make a bit of a drive to Mission, Chilliwack, or Abbotsford to take advantage of the cheap gas.

Alberta has also seen a drop, with prices hovering near the $1.05/litre mark.

While you might also be looking stateside for a deal, it is important to note that there’s a weather alert that might make the trip home a bit treacherous depending on when you leave or return.

There is a risk of freezing rain tonight in southern sections near the United States border, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada‘s latest information, which might mean delays at the Peace Arch Crossing.

As well, a snowfall warning has been issued for Metro Vancouver (and actually most of the province) and drivers are urged to stay home if they can.
