Metro Vancouver temperatures are soaring for the first full week of May, and there’s no sign of a cooldown in the forecast.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for temperatures to remain in the high teens and low 20s this week.
However, temperatures will climb up to 29°C inland on Monday, May 4, and even higher when factoring in the humidex.

“It’s not really temperature, per se, but it’s more of how it might feel,” ECCC meteorologist Bobby Sekhon told Daily Hive in a previous interview.
“Of course, that takes into account the temperature and the amount of moisture in the air.”
The ECCC added online that a Humidex reading can help people make informed decisions about outdoor activities and heat-related health risks before venturing outside.
The latest forecast indicates that Metro Vancouver temperatures could feel as high as 31°C on Monday and 27°C on Tuesday, with the humidex, with a UV index of 7, or high, on both days.

“A ridge of high pressure is firmly in place, and it has been particularly hot,” explained ECCC meteorologist Bobby Sekhon. “We’re seeing elevated temperatures, five to 10 degrees above normal, and Abbotsford is up to 13 degrees higher today.”
“It’s quite exceptional heat in early May, and it’s not often we see it this early in the month.”
Sekhon added that there is not much precipitation, if any at all, in the forecast. Overnight lows are also expected to stay warm all week, with nothing below 10°C for the next week.
Several areas across the province tied or broke temperature records over the weekend.
Victoria Harbour Area smashed a record that has been in place since 1898 when it reached a temperature of 26.9°C on Sunday, May 3.
Port Alberni broke a 1907 record by over three degrees when it hit 29.8°C on the same day. And Lillooet soared to a new historic high of 31.1°C, besting a record set back in 1937.
In total, 24 areas across B.C. set new daily maximum temperature records on May 3.
