Metro Vancouver is in for a welcome stretch of warm, summer-like weather this Easter long weekend and into next week, with at least seven consecutive days of sunshine and unseasonably mild conditions expected to draw people outdoors across the region.
As of 5 a.m. today, Environment and Climate Change Canada’s latest forecast anticipates warmer temperatures in the region over the coming days. Today, Saturday, April 4, it will reach highs of 14°C by ocean water and 18°C for areas further inland away from the moderating effects of water.
Then on Sunday, April 5, temperatures will reach highs of 17°C near water and 20°C for areas further inland. In Chilliwack, temperatures will reach 21°C.
Similar conditions will prevail on Monday, April 6, with highs of 16°C by the water and 19°C further inland.
Temperatures next week will generally reach a high of the mid-teens for areas near water, with the inland high on Wednesday, April 8 reaching 17°C.
The federal government’s meteorological agency currently anticipates sunny conditions will persist daily through at least Friday, April 10.
A rare and unusually strong high-pressure system this time of year is driving these conditions, setting the stage for an accelerated burst of spring growth as flowers bloom more rapidly — though it may also bring a noticeable uptick in pollen levels.
