Major fondue chain reveals plans for its Canadian expansion

A major U.S. fondue chain is actively setting its sights on Canadian expansion.

Having opened in 1975 in Florida, The Melting Pot has become well known across the U.S. for its sweet and savoury fondue and unique four-course dining experience, growing to more than 90 locations.

Despite its long history, The Melting Pot has only ever had one Canadian outpost, located in Edmonton, which has been there for over a decade. Now, it’s finally the right time for the fondue spot’s expansion north of the border.

“We sell cheese fondue in Orlando, Florida so why we couldn’t do it in a beautiful country like Canada, which probably aligns with that culinary style a little bit more. It just makes sense right now to make that move,” Collin Benyo, The Melting Pot’s franchise growth strategist, tells Dished.

If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, The Melting Pot allows customers to fully customize their dining experience by selecting their cheese or chocolate of choice for fondue or even choosing which method of cooking is used for their entree.

As for where exactly in Canada The Melting Pot’s next port of call is likely to be, it looks as though it could be Calgary.

“Because of the proximity of Calgary to Edmonton, I think what we’re going to find are people who are perhaps familiar with the brand,” Benyo explains.

“So I think Calgary, for me, is a very strong market that, with the right strategic partner, we could find some very good success.”

No agreements are in place just yet for The Melting Pot’s Canadian expansion, but the company is actively looking, so watch this space.
