McDonald’s renames pair of locations “McDavid’s” in honour of his iconic goal for Canada

McDonald’s has announced its big plan to honour Connor McDavid following his overtime heroics versus the U.S. in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

As hockey fans are well aware, McDavid was able to secure the championship for Canada with what was the biggest goal of his career to date.

All of Canada rallied around this team in hopes of beating the U.S., and they were able to get their wish. Now, McDonald’s is stepping up to recognize the Edmonton Oilers superstar.

As of yesterday afternoon, a McDonald’s restaurant in Newmarket (1100 Davis Dr) has been named “McDavid’s.” There will also a location in Edmonton (10375-51st Avenue) with the same name launching this afternoon at 2 pm MT. Both will continue to be named “McDavid’s” for one week.

This decision from McDonald’s came after they had originally promised McDavid they would use his name for some of their restaurants had he and the Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers in last year’s Stanley Cup Final.

Part of this campaign will see the Newmarket location sell their World Famous Fries for just $0.97, which will run from Feb. 28 until March 2. This offer will have a limit of five orders per customer.

This isn’t the first time McDavid and McDonald’s have partnered up. In fact, right now, you can order a “Big Mac-David” burger, which has been on the menu for well over a month as part of a promotion with the 28-year-old. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews was also a part of that promo, with McDonald’s also currently serving the “Smoky Quarter Papi.”

Though McDavid was unable to help lead the Oilers to a Stanley Cup win this past year, he and his teammates are very much contenders again in 2024-25. Despite a rough start out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break, they still own a 34-21-4 record, good enough for second in the Pacific Division.

They appear to be in line for a long playoff run and could very well win it all later this year. If that were to be the case, McDonald’s may have to come up with another creative campaign to celebrate the Oilers star.
