Where else other than Vancouver can you celebrate and support the LGBTQ community, while the Mayor spins in the DJ booth? None come to mind.

The 3rd Annual Vision: Proud event takes place Monday, July 27 at Celebrities Night Club, kicking off Pride Week in Vancouver.

The event features local drag legend Joan-E hosting, along with RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkxx Monsoon, as well as Mayor Gregor Roberston as guest DJ.

The last two events have been sold out, and organizer Justin Kaiser says this year’s is on the same track.

“It’s great seeing so many people from the community coming out to support what Vision has been doing in the community, but also supporting Pride Week,” he says. “It’s a lot of people that aren’t typically involved in politics. It isn’t your typical political event where you have the Mayor of your city DJing at a nightclub.”

Kaiser says the support shown by Mayor Robertson and other city personnel is an inspiration, one that makes the LGBTQ community in Vancouver feel very welcome.

“It’s really great to have someone so supportive of the LGBTQ community, with the school board, and on the council,” he says. “Councillor Tim Steveson, with his Pride mission to Sochii last year, giving the Pride Parade and Festival civic status. The many achievements the LGBTQ community have had with Vision has been really great.”

Anyone RSVPing for Vision: Proud online can make a song suggestion for the Mayor’s setlist, and is encouraged to visit www.proud.votevision.ca.
