A one-day, free Mexican “cultural experience” is coming to the heart of downtown Vancouver next month.

On Saturday, September 16, the day-long outdoor pop-up event known as Market Mexico will take over Robson Square and everyone is welcome to come check it out.

“Markets, or Mercados, have been a fixture in Mexico since pre-Hispanic times—Mexico City has over 300 markets alone, all with their own unique flavour and offerings,” event organizers explain on Facebook. “At Market Mexico attendees can expect to be transported to one of these and experience the sights and sounds of a real Mexican-style market.”

Popular Mexican market staples such as  as tacos, tortas, and elotes (Mexican corn), horchatas, churros will all be on the menu. Attendees can quench their thirst with aguas frescas, agave spirits, and micheladas in the cantina.

In addition to the market, the event will also feature music, film programming, and a Mexican market virtual reality experience that was produced by the Mexico Tourism Board.

A full list of event vendors is expected to be released soon.
