This takes dinner and a movie to another level. MARKET by Jean-Georges, the hotel restaurant in Shangri-La Vancouver, has launched their Movies at the MARKET series where instead of jumbo sodas you’ll be sipping Champagne and nibbling on gourmet popcorn.
And that’s the just start of it. Once the lights come up, guests will be escorted to the Georgia Room in MARKET by Jean-Georges, where the second portion of the evening awaits. Chef de Cuisine Montgomery Lau will create a four-course dinner inspired by the film du jour. For Spinning Plates, Lau will prepare a menu that speaks to his love of food, starting from the comfort of his grandmother’s kitchen in Hong Kong through to leading the helm at Jean-Georges’ only restaurant in Canada.
Kicking off the Movies at MARKET series, on April 23 and 24, will be the Vancouver premiere of Spinning Plates, an award-winning documentary about three extraordinary restaurants and the incredible people who bring them to life.
In Spinning Plates, a world-renowned three-star Michelin chef competes for the ultimate restaurant prize in Chicago, while privately battling a life-threatening condition. A 150-year-old restaurant in Iowa is still standing only because of an unbreakable bond with the community. And a fledgling Mexican restaurant in Tucson struggles as its owners risk everything to survive and provide for their young daughter. Their unforgettable stories of family, legacy, passion and survival come together to reveal how meaningful food can be, and the power it has to connect us to one another.
As there are only 36 seats in the intimate theatre, we’re suggesting you book early. The doors open at 5 p.m., with a glass of Champagne upon arrival, and the event starts at 5:30 p.m. with the screening of the movie followed by dinner. Tickets for Movies at MARKET are priced at $78 and available by calling the restaurant at (604) 695-1115.
