Maple Leaf Chicken Breasts recalled across Canada after reports of illness

Maple Leaf Foods is recalling some of its chicken breast strip products across Canada because they may contain the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria.

The recalled product is the 840 g of Maple Leaf Chicken Strips with a best before date of 2018 SE 29, and the UPC 0 63100 03089 6.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Staphylococcus toxin may not look or smell spoiled and the toxin produced by the bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures.

Common symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever.

The CFIA says that illnesses have been reported by people who ate the chicken strips.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
