Man's partially-buried body found near Wreck Beach

Authorities are investigating the circumstances behind the death of a man whose body was found partially buried near Wreck Beach.

The remains were discovered late Wednesday near Trail 6 at the edge of the University of British Columbia campus, according to CBC Vancouver.

“[The body] was in a very precarious position. We had to use an abundance of caution using geotechnical experts and search and rescue experts to assess the scene,” RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger told CBC.

Preliminary investigation into the death suggests the as-yet unidentified man did not meet with foul play, but perhaps was rather a lone camper on the ridge above the beach. Heavy rains may have washed the ground away and sent him to his death below, leaving him semi-covered in the earth.

Authorities warn the cliffs in the area of Wreck Beach remain unstable. Investigators are expected to be at the scene again today to see if there are any other bodies and to continue to work on the case.
