Manchester City's 2-1 Victory Over The Whitecaps

This was one of those opportunities where you were ecstatic for the Manchester City fans of Vancouver. Their long worshiped team was here in Vancouver to play their very own Whitecaps in a club friendly. Thats some memorable stuff.

The Vancouver Whitecaps had their first international club friendly on Monday July 18th against one of the top teams in the premier league – Manchester City. It was inevitable to most that Manchester was going to win this one but that didn’t stop Vancouver fans showing their pride by showcasing their WCFC gear and chanting away “we’re blue, we’re white…” and so on. The first half of the game was extremely unexpected as Camilo Sanvezzo nonchalantly kicked the ball towards net and defeated Mancity’s goaltender, Joe Hart. Hart was a heartbreaker to the random Citizens (name for Manchester City fans) dispersed within the 24,074 people in the stands.

Things changed as the second half rolled around and bigger names like Balotelli, Clichy and Mancini joined the blues. At the the 68th Guidetti ties up the game 1-1 as he shoots the ball from the corner of the net. At this point you could see clusters of people wearing baby blue jumping up in down in the stands. Before you could even gather your thoughts, Shaun Wright-Phillips blasted the ball in and defeated the Whitecaps with a one touch goal with 6 minutes left in the game. Manchester City didn’t come out of this game as complete winners as they may have lost one of their key players Yaya Toure in an ankle injury, although it has been speculated that he will be okay to play in 3-4 days.

The Whitecaps put up a good fight, it was definitely impressive. Congratulations to Manchester City on their win.
