Man wanted for Commercial Drive home intrusion

Dec 20 2017, 1:32 am

The Vancouver Police Department are searching for a man who allegedly broke into a home in the Commercial Drive neighbourhood early Monday morning.

A woman and small child were asleep inside the home near Grandview Park when a man climbed through a window around 5 a.m.  The woman woke to the noise and immediately engaged the suspect in a physical altercation and shouting loudly. The noise woke up another relative sleeping in the house and the two fought the man until he fled through the yard on foot.

Constable Brian Montague for the VPD told Vancity Buzz the woman who first fought off the intruder received some minor bruising but was otherwise unharmed.

Police say the suspect was last seen running south between the houses, but witnesses may have spotted the same man running southbound on the east side of Commercial Drive near 4th Avenue only 25 minutes later. According to witnesses, a man was acting panicked and was seen banging on a car window and shouting that he needed a ride and approaching a bus and doing the same. The VPD are working to determine if the two incidents are related and involved the same suspect.

Anyone who may have seen this man or has information on either of these incidents, including the identity of the driver whose car the man touched, should call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
