BC police watchdog investigating after man fatally shot by RCMP

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) is investigating after a man was fatally shot by an RCMP officer.

On Sunday, at approximately 1:10 pm, police responded to a domestic incident in the 12400 blocks of Colemore Street in Maple Ridge.

According to a statement from the IIO, the RCMP report that officers entered the residence and located three individuals, one of whom had a knife.

During an interaction, police reportedly tried to use a taser but were unsuccessful. After the taser, another officer fired their gun.

Emergency services were on scene and provided medical assistance, however, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other reported injuries.

The IIO BC has now taken over the investigation and will be investigating the link between the man’s death and police actions.
