The Canadian Coast Guard is scouring English Bay for signs of a man who fell overboard from a commercial ship Friday morning.

The man fell from the vessel around 9:15 am, Coast Guard spokesperson Michelle Imbeau told Daily Hive.

Two Coast Guard boats from Kitsilano, a Coast Guard hovercraft, a helicopter from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Comox, the Vancouver Police Department’s marine unit, and a federal government plane are all searching the water to find the man.

Imbeau said she couldn’t provide more details because the situation is still unfolding.

Residents nearby in the West End shared photos on social media of the urgent search for the man.
