Man hailing taxi on Halloween night struck by 5-ton truck

A pedestrian hailing a taxi on Lougheed Highway on Halloween night was struck by a five-ton box truck.

According to Ridge Meadows RCMP Traffic Services, the incident took place at around 2:30 am this morning.

Officers responded to a report of a man who was hit near the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Harris Road.

Witnesses reported that pedestrian was trying to hail a taxi and stepped into the eastbound lanes of Lougheed Highway when he was struck by the five-ton box trick.

RCMP confirmed that the 22-year-old Port Coquitlam man was taken to hospital and remains in critical condition.

“This is a tragic outcome and we are supporting the family during this difficult time,” states Sgt. Brenda Gresiuk.

“We have had a mild October but this week the weather has changed and the rain is here.  These darker days make it more difficult to see and be seen. Please be safe.”
