After a mall in Surrey was evacuated over the weekend, police have now charged one man in connection with the incident.
According to Surrey RCMP, police responded to reports of a threat at Surrey Central Mall at 4 pm on August 25.
Upon their arrival, officers evacuated the mall and surrounding businesses as a precaution, securing the scene.
Then, with the assistance of Integrated Police Dog Services, police cleared the area and determined that the area was safe, with no threat to the public.
Police located and arrested a male suspect at a nearby residence, shortly after the incident.
“Surrey RCMP frontline members responded quickly and efficiently to ensure the safety of everyone present,” said Surrey RCMP Insp. Manly Burleigh. “We treat every threat like this as real until proven to be false.”
Burleigh added that the officers involved “did an outstanding job responding to a potentially dangerous incident.”
While no further information on the incident or the suspect is available at this point, police said the investigation is continuing, and anyone who has information relating to this incident is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
