A 19-year-old man is in police custody after being charged in connection with the death of his father.

The Vancouver Police department said in a release that 80-year-old Vladimir Shevalev was found dead in his Coal Harbour apartment on March 1. They originally thought he died of natural causes, but some of the circumstances were concerning to police, spurring an investigation by the VPD Major Crime Unit.

The victim’s son, Alexander Konstanovich Shevalev, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. His first court appearance is scheduled for June 12 and he will remain in police custody until then.

The police aren’t providing anymore details. This is the seventh murder in Vancouver this year.
