Vancouver Police said they have arrested a man after a Kitsilano Tesla dealership was vandalized overnight.
According to a release from VPD, police responded to the Tesla dealership near Burrard and West 4th Ave. around 1:30 a.m. on Friday after receiving reports that a man spray-painted obscenities on the building’s front window.
Officers were able to locate the man quickly after a witness called 9-1-1.
The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and faces mischief charges. He has since been released and is scheduled to appear in criminal court on May 15.
According to VPD, there have been eight confirmed acts of mischief in the city that police believe to be politically motivated and opposing Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s affiliation with U.S. President Donald Trump. Police said all files remain open and continue to be investigated.
“The Vancouver Police Department supports everyone’s right to engage in peaceful and lawful protest, however, people who commit acts of violence and mischief will face arrest and criminal charges,” stated VPD.
Last week, mass protests were held at Tesla dealerships around Metro Vancouver and the country.
The province has also taken a stance against the electric auto-maker, announcing last week that Tesla products are no longer eligible for CleanBC and BC Hydro rebates.
Earlier this week, the Vancouver International Auto Show said it would not feature Tesla at its annual event due to safety concerns.
