A  recent video shared on social media shows an officer with the Edmonton Police Service arresting a man who allegedly refused to wear a face mask at a local Costco.

In the video, the man tells officers that he is exempt from wearing a mask. Police say that he was asked to leave the store by staff but refused to do so.

The video was posted YouTube on November 17.

In the video, the man tells officers that he is exempt from wearing a mask. Police say that he was asked to leave the store by staff but refused to do so.

An officer can be heard telling the man that he will be arrested for trespassing if he does not leave the store.

“Are you going to leave? Or am I going to arrest you for trespassing?” the officer asks, before telling the man to place his hands behind his back.

The man then sits on the ground, handcuffed, for the duration of the six-minute clip.

The man refuses to stand when a second officer enters the store, and the two police officers proceed to pick him up and carry him to a waiting police van as the video ends.

Costco Canada’s face mask policy states that all members and guests must wear a face mask that covers their mouth and nose at all times. Individuals who are unable to wear a face mask due to a medical condition must wear a face shield.

Entry to Costco will be granted only to those wearing a face mask or face shield, they say.

Daily Hive has reached out to Edmonton Police and Costco for further comment.
