Vancouver Police have arrested the suspect for last week’s brazen home invasion in the downtown Vancouver West End.

Thirty-four-year-old Ira Matthew Winrob has been charged with break and enter as well as unlawful confinement. He was arrested yesterday after officers executed a search warrant at his Vancouver residence, where they also recovered two handguns and stolen property.

Prior to the incident, Winrob had no criminal record and was not known to police. He will remain in custody until his next court date.

Police were called at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19 after a receiving a 9-1-1 call that a man with a gun had forced his way into a apartment unit located in a building on Davie Street near Bidwell Street.

During the home invasion, one man escaped the suite by jumping from a 7th floor balcony. That victim was taken to the hospital with relatively minor injuries. Three others in the apartment during this targeted home invasion were not injured.

It triggered a massive police hunt for the suspect within the immediate vicinity. Police in SWAT gear were seen canvassing the rooftops while a police helicopter hovered above.
