This summer, you can rappel down the side of the Hyatt Regency Hotel – all for a great cause.
This once-in-a-lifetime experience is all part of Rope For Hope, a fundraising event in aid of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC and The Yukon.
Taking place on Thursday, July 6, the fourth-annual event will see participants scale down the 36-storey building. And to take part, all you have to do is raise a minimum $1,500 which will grant wishes to children living with life-threatening conditions.
Anyone aged 14 or older who wants to participate and fundraise is eligible to do since there is still space available. This year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation hopes to raise $150,000, which will contribute to their goal of granting 150 wishes during Canada’s 150th year.

One fundraiser who has signed up this year is Brandy Ripolo. The young yoga teacher suffers with a blood disorder and was a former Wish Kid in the 2000’s. Her wish was to meet actor Orlando Bloom and in 2004 it was granted. She and her family were flown to LA to meet Bloom on the set of a movie he was shooting.
Since then, Ripolo began volunteering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping out at events and helping grant wishes to kids. This year, she’s fundraising and finally rappelling for herself.
“It will be a little nerve-wracking, but a good challenge. I feel like it’s going to be one big party,” says Ripolo.
Despite her illness, Ripolo has a ‘try anything’ attitude and has recently taken up the sport of fencing. Among many other activities, she runs an awareness Instagram page for others with ITP blood disorders, too.
Rappellers/Rope For Hope
This special Rope For Hope event is taking place with the help of Over The Edge Global, a special events company that provides for non-profit organizations throughout Canada and the US.
