Who doesn’t love a reminder of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver?

Those nostalgic vibes are set to return later in 2026.

International short-track speed skating is coming back to Vancouver for the first time since 2010. From Oct. 23 to 25, the first tour of the World Cup circuit will return to the Pacific Coliseum.

“We’re proud to welcome the ISU Short Track World Tour to Vancouver, marking the return of world-class speed skating to a city with a deep Olympic legacy,” Destination Vancouver president Royce Chewin said in a press release.

Back in 2010, Canadian short-track speed skaters accounted for five of Canada’s 26 total medals.

Charles Hamelin, one of the most decorated winter Olympic athletes in Canadian history, won two gold medals in 2010. He won gold in the men’s 500-metre, and reached the top of the podium again during the men’s 5,000-metre relay.

François-Louis Tremblay (gold and silver) and Marianne St-Gelais (silver and bronze) were the other Canadian Olympians to haul in multiple medals in short track.

Canada won another five medals in short-track speed skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. Steven Dubois brought home Canada’s only gold, emerging victorious in the men’s 500-metre.

However, Courtney Sarault was the big winner, hauling in four medals total. She became the first Canadian woman to win four short-track speed skating medals at a single Olympic Games.

Before the Olympics, Sarault was a big winner on the ISU short-track speed skating tour. She accumulated 986 total points and ranked first overall on the circuit.

Although his Olympics were disappointing relative to expectations, William Dandjinou cleaned up on last year’s ISU short-track tour, ranking first after collecting 876 points.

The International Skating Union is hosting short-track speed skating events in other Canadian cities as well, making a stop in Montreal for the second leg immediately after the competition at the Coliseum. International long-track speed skating will also be coming to Calgary’s Olympic Oval early in 2027.
