Montreal electronic-hip-hop DJ and producer Lunice will be making his way across Canada with the Red Bull Music Academy this month, hosting a series of sessions and performing live on a four-stop tour in Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto.
The Red Bull Music Academy is a global music institution that provides a travelling series of workshops and festivals that aim to encourage creativity. As a platform, it brings together a curated group of artists to attend intimate lectures and collaborative sessions in a custom-made complex of studio spaces. The Academy has travelled everywhere from London to São Paolo and now, for its 18th edition this year, it will take place in Montreal in the fall.
Lunice graduated from the Red Bull Music Academy in London in 2010. Since then he has released two EPs on the famed label LuckyMe and collaborated with artists like Kanye West, Diplo, and Azealia Banks, while continuing to work with the Academy year-round.
At the Canadian sessions (the Vancouver date takes place on February 20 at Fortune Sound Club), producers, instrumentalists, and DJs will get the opportunity to be directly mentored by Lunice, who will share his insights and experiences with the participants as they create their very own applications for the forthcoming Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal. Club nights completely open to the public will follow each session, where Lunice will perform a live set alongside his fellow London alumni, Ango.
The application for the Red Bull Music Academy can now be downloaded online and must be mailed by March 7, with a CD of recorded material. A jury for the Academy will then choose the group of music makers who will attend the event in Montreal.
