Vancouver’s Oakridge Centre is gearing up to host its fourth-annual LunarFest event.
Celebrations for the Year of the Dog will be taking place throughout BC and Ontario. Here in Vancouver, you can go along to the Oakridge Centre from February 7 to 25 to admire stunning art installations and so much more.
On Monday, February 12, LunarFest will be celebrating Family Day at Oakridge Centre in style. And you visit the West Galleria from 12 to 4 pm to enjoy plenty of free family fun.
You and the kids can learn how to papercraft a dog (complete with dog house), a dog-shaped lantern, a Chinese shuttlecock, and many other paper art projects.
While you’re there, take a walk through the beautiful path decked out with over 800 lanterns at the ‘Lanterns of Blessing’ located in the West Galleria. Tip: Don’t forget to check out the 10 fully golden canine dogs in the East Galleria.
The number 10 represents perfection and wholeness in many cultures. And these dogs could be your Lunar New Year good luck charms for the year ahead, so make sure you take a photo with them!
This year, Oakridge Centre has partnered with the BCSPCA and throughout LunarFest, 100 ‘Year of the Dog’ inspired, artist-rendered figurines will be located in retail storefronts throughout the mall. At the end of the festival, they will be available to purchase for $38 each.
And if you upload images of your dog(s) to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter with the hashtag #dogsofoakridge, the Oakridge Centre will donate $1 to BCSPCA for every posting.
LunarFest began back in 2009 and is now Canada’s premier presenter of contemporary expression in Asian arts and culture, which was initially built to be a Vancouver Winter Olympics Legacy event. Now it brings soul, art, and life, together on stages throughout the country.
