Lunarfest 2014 Vancouver: Free Admission

Since its inception in 2009, the Lunarfest has committed its annual event to share the eclectic bounty of Asian culture with Vancouver.

In honour of the year of the horse, Lunarfest 2014 will bring forth the celebrations from Friday, February 7 to Sunday, February 9 at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s outdoor plaza on West Georgia Street.

And the best part is it’s FREE admission!

Here are the activities you can take part in during the festival:

Lantern Palaces

Lantern Palaces is a theatrical lantern art show that will take you on a journey to historical Asian palaces.

Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza: noon to 7 p.m. (show runs every hour).

Lion Dancers of the world

Come and experience the traditional lion dances of Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, India and Indonesia.

Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza: noon to 7 p.m. (show runs every hour)

Dumpling Festival

Taste the flavours of Asia contained within the iconic dumpling.

Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza: 11 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Games

Take part in various activities that are sure to please the whole family. You can have your fortune told, create your own amulet, and even test if your vision is as good as a horse.

Workshop

Take home a hand held horse lantern and contribute a lantern to the annual lantern release in Cumberland for one of the largest Sky Lantern Launches in Canada.

Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza activity tent: noon to 7 p.m.

Storytelling

Storytellers share their thoughts on Asian history and their perception of the importance of horses in human history.

Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza: noon to 3 p.m.

The meeting of the Drums. Experience the traditional drumming performances of:

  • Korea – Feb. 7 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Dharma Drum – Feb. 8 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Japan – Feb. 9 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.  

About the Rocking Horse

Come see a huge rocking horse that will inspire the youth in all of us.

Lunar Tea

Taste the ancient art of tea that spans history over 5,000 years.
