Vancouver Chariot Festival 2015: a millennia-old festival on Beach Avenue

This summer take part in a millennia-old festival, right in your own backyard, at the Vancouver Chariot Festival.

In its 34th year, the Vancouver Chariot Festival originated from the Jagannath Festival in India, which dates back thousands of years. In 1973 the festival was transplanted to Vancouver, and has grown to include a diverse array of communities and cultures.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the parade will travel down Beach Avenue in the West End, from Beach Avenue and Howe Avenue, all the way down to the parking lot at Stanley Park. The parade will features chariots, float, and other demonstrations from various cultural and community organizations.

The festival itself will take place in Stanley Park, and features live entertainment on two stages, food, and arts & crafts market, a kid’s activity tent, Mendi hand tattoos, yoga and meditation demonstrations, and much more.
