Long lines at Vancouver Apple Store for new iPhone 5 launch (PHOTOS)

Would you spend the night outside Pacific Centre on Granville Street to be one of the first people in Vancouver to get the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C?

That’s what some did and by morning there were nearly 200 people waiting outside Pacific Centre’s doors. Not that winding lines are solely a Vancouver phenomenon, long lines have also been reported at other locations in Metro Vancouver. Elsewhere in the world, some lines reportedly began days ago.

The exceedingly high demand for the new phone comes even though the original iPhone 5 was launched barely a year ago (and to the same long overnight lineups). Just before 10 am this morning, all the new iPhone 5S and 5C models at Pacific Centre were sold out.

The iPhone 5S comes in three colours (space gray, gold and silver) and comes with more powerful and new features including the faster Apple A7 processor, the better 8 megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash, and Touch ID – a fingerprint sensor at the home button instead of inputting a password.

On the other hand, the new lower-end iPhone 5C model is being hailed as a ‘more’ affordable phone. The polycarbonate cased phone comes in a series of bright green, blue and pink colours and carries most of the same features as the original iPhone 5.

Without a 2-year contract, the 16GB iPhone 5S sells for $719 while the 16 GB iPhone 5C sells for $599.
