Vancouverites are already well aware of the cycling options their city offers as well as the bounty of world-renowned mountain biking trail networks right on their doorstep.

Now, that abundance has been recognized by Lonely Planet, which recently ranked Vancouver as one of the 10 best spots in the world to take a “cycling holiday.”

According to the travel publication, “Vancouver’s North Shore is a legendary place to ride mountain bikes. Situated a short drive from the city centre, steep tracks twist down through old-growth red cedars, aided by a range of man-made bridges and teeter totters (see-saws). The riding there will leave you giddy with laughter if your skills are up to it. ”

Lonely Planet also notes that for those who are looking for gentler rides, “there are lots of cross-country trails about as well.”

Vancouver landed in second place on the list, right behind Siena, Italy, and right in front of Yorkshire, England.

The full list is as follows:

  1. Siena, Italy
  2. Vancouver, Canada
  3. Yorkshire, England
  4. Stavanger, Norway
  5. Girona, Spain
  6. Amsterdam, The Netherlands
  7. Athens, USA
  8. Cape Breton, Canada
  9. Boulder, USA
  10. Chihuahua, Mexico
