A local women’s organization has undergone a rebrand to reflect its expansion of work throughout the province.
As of Jan. 28, 2025, YWCA Metro Vancouver rebranded to YWCA BC, given that they already work in Prince George, Kelowna, and offer virtual programs throughout B.C.
The new title also “ensures our name matches our values today, strengthens our commitment towards reconciliation and clarifies that we are not a religious organization,” said Alyse Kotyk, a senior strategist for YWCA BC, in an email sent to Daily Hive.
Previously, YWCA stood for Young Women’s Christian Association. With the rebrand, these letters no longer stand for individual words.
“We remain focused on advancing equity for women, children, youth and families across the province. This change honours the trust and recognition built through generations of work while reflecting how our organization has evolved,” said Kotyk.
Erin Seeley, the organization’s CEO, also spoke about the change in a social media post.
“We want to continue to grow, especially where affordable housing and supports are needed most,” she said.

The organization became YWCA Metro Vancouver in 2011. Before, it was YWCA Vancouver since 1897.
The organization has emphasized that its work supporting women, youth, children, and families remains the same. They offer multiple programs for women, such as support for women who have experienced abuse and legal support.
Recently, the B.C. government announced that YWCA BC will operate a new 78-unit building in East Vancouver for women and children leaving violence.
