Loaded pistols dumped by distraught man found near West Vancouver elementary school
It was a tense morning for one West Vancouver community as authorities conducted a search for weapons discarded near an elementary school by a distraught man.
West Vancouver Police say they were called to a home Wednesday evening in the 3000 Block of Rosebery Avenue. A man had knocked on the door of the residence to ask the occupant to call the police, and that he had left weapons in the area.
Officers located the man, who was ultimately taken into custody under the Mental Health Act for an assessment. The man had informed police he had abandoned two loaded 9mm pistols in a green or wooded area close to West Bay Elementary School.
Thursday morning, West Van PD with the help of the North Shore Rescue, launched a search for the weapons. The school remained open during the search, however outdoor activities were canceled.
Both of the weapons were located late Thursday morning.
