With the summer season (yes, we’re now in meteorological summer) comes many opportunities for job seekers, including casual and part-time jobs, some of which offer a living wage or something close to it in Metro Vancouver.
All of the jobs in this post pay well above B.C.’s minimum wage, which just increased a couple of days ago.
Living Wage BC says, “In Metro Vancouver, the current living wage is $27.05 an hour, a staggering $9.20/hour higher than the new minimum wage.”
Here are some roles in Metro Vancouver that offer competitive pay and require minimal education or experience.
Popular clothing brand Aritzia is seeking a part-time retail associate for its Robson store, offering a competitive hourly wage of up to $30. The job listing says employees have “endless growth” opportunities. The first job requirement Aritzia lists is “an aspirational sense of individual style.”
Marriott International is hiring a general runner. The position pays $31.05 per hour and only requires a high school diploma. No experience is required. Marriott International is also looking for a part-time room attendant at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver. That position pays up to $32.39 per hour and only requires the applicant to hold a high school diploma.
Article, a local and notable furniture shop, is looking for a casual customer care staff member. This position doesn’t quite reach a living wage, but it’s close, offering employees $23.25 per hour. While Article has a Vancouver office, the job listing states that employees can work from home 100 per cent of the time. With many companies looking to force employees back into the office, that’s a noteworthy perk.
There are other perks, such as four per cent vacation pay and 25 per cent off furniture.
Courthouse News Service is seeking a part-time reporter, and the role pays well above a living wage at $38.50 an hour for working roughly 20 hours a week. The job listing states that a hungry reporter can increase the hours to 40 per week and that no journalism experience is required.
The world’s favourite brand of yoga pants, Lululemon, is hiring a part-time educator. The role pays up to $25.30 an hour, putting it just under a living wage. The company also offers its employees a wide variety of parks.
This is just a small sample of jobs that pay a living wage, as listed on Indeed. If you’re looking for a specific position and pay range, make sure to sort by salaries on the website.
