A live-scored, outdoor movie is playing at the Vancouver Art Gallery next week

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association is giving a big upgrade to their Summer Movie Nights.

This August, they’ll be partnering with Shaolin Jazz to bring Vancouverites an interactive night of events dubbed “Can I Kick It?

The highlight of the evening, as per usual, will be the outdoor movie playing on the Vancouver Art Gallery Square.

For the special night, however, movie-goers will get to watch a showing of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with Washinton’s DJ 2-Tone Jones remixing a live soundtrack as the film plays.

The evening will also include a free break dancing workshop and performance from Shape Shifter Studio and the Vancouver Street Dance Association. The workshop is open to participants of all skill levels — just be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

A live martial arts demonstration will also take place prior to the start of the movie.

In between the free activities and the live-scored movie, attendees will have their choice of two fantastic food trucks: Venezualan fare from Come Arepa and Filipino treats from Shameless Buns.

A schedule of the night is as follows:

  • 7 to 8 pm: Breakdance workshop
  • 8 to 8:30 pm: Dance party
  • 8:45 to 9 pm: Breakdance performance
  • 9 to 9:15 pm: Martial arts demo
  • 9:15 pm: Live-scored movie
