Little Mountain Vancouver Development Video

Little Mountain, the former social housing only site that has been empty for two years or so on Main Street near Queen Elizabeth park is slated for redevelopment and it looks as though the developer, Holborn Properties, is finally ready to get serious and start the long process of getting the green light from the city. Stumbled upon this neat video on YouTube of what the area could look like. Keep in mind this is the initial proposal and will most likely end up being watered down.

The 15.2 acre site will contain a variety of building types, open public spaces and a range of public amenities. In total 2024 housing units will be built, including replacement of the 224 non market housing units that were previously at this location. In addition, 10 Aboriginal housing units are being proposed. The stickiest part of this proposal will be the building heights as the neighbourhood is not accustomed to anything greater than 4 stories. The Little Mountain redevelopment is currently proposing buildings as high as 14 storeys. This will definitely upset the neighbourhood, so look for another long drawn out process.

There will also be 10,000 square feet of retail and new community facilities.

This project reminds a lot of the Olympic Village. We’ll have more on this as it develops.
