Vancouver Climate Strike
Date & Time
Fri, Sep 20, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Description
On Friday, September 20, thousands of people - including families, students, teachers, elders, youth, advocates and activists - will carry out a peaceful rally together on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) lands — in Vancouver. Concerned residents are united in calling for climate action now: join in and make your voice heard!
This vibrant and family-friendly march has three core demands, which are to: stop new oil and gas projects today; keep gas out of new buildings; and protect people, nature, and Indigenous rights.
The march will commence at 1pm at City Hall, with a host nation welcome by Manny Strain, 2-Spirit artist from the lands and waters of the xʷməθkʷəyəm (Musqueam), Simpcw and Syilx peoples; and a speech from a passionate local high school student.
The march will then travel to the Vancouver Art Gallery, with musical performances along the way. Participants will conclude the march at the Vancouver Art Gallery, featuring a welcome by Sun Dance Chief Rueben George of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation; a speech by environmental organizer Ashley Zarbatany; and a special guest appearance by singer-songwriter and activist Billy Bragg. There will also be live entertainment and a children’s activity booth.
