Lip scrubs for chapped winter lips

With the coming of winter just around the corner a lot of people are concerned with the effect the cold can have on the skin. One tragic effect the cold will have on the skin is on the lips. With the popularity of matte lipstick, chapped lips can make the look of matte lips appear dry and unpleasant. However, there are ways to get rid of those chapped lips and have those matte lips looking perfect.

Lush has created amazing lip scrubs that not only come in delicious flavours, but are also edible! Flavours you can purchase are Bubblegum, Mint Julips, Popcorn, and a flavour coming for the holiday season called Santa’s Lip Scrub. Start the day by applying the lip scrub by rubbing it on the lips and keep it on as long as necessary while rubbing your lips together, but not to worry about wiping it off seeing as they are edible! There will be a noticeable difference right away and it can also satisfy your sweet tooth (or salt cravings when it comes to the Popcorn flavour).

This lip scrub can be purchased at any Lush store for $9.95, however if the price seems a bit high, there are also DIY lip scrubs that can also work with the right ingredients. There are different ways to make the lip scrubs at home, with different types of sugar as well as ones with flavouring, such as vanilla, that are easy to create. The flavouring is not necessary, but can be a nice touch considering as the scrub is going on the lips.

All you need to make the lip scrub is:

–          2 tsp brown or white sugar

–          ½ tsp olive oil

–          1 tsp honey

Mix the ingredients into a small bowl until the honey and olive oil have been consumed by the sugar. You can then transfer the mixture into a container to store it. To apply, just rub a small amount onto the lips for about a minute and then rinse off or wipe off with a damp paper towel. It will have the same effect as the Lush lip scrub, but wont cost as much, but will also not come in the flavours the Lush scrubs come in.

For added moisture for the lips, always apply a lip balm after the lip scrub and throughout the day to keep the lips from getting dry in the cold weather.
